5 Easy Steps to Homemade Tacos

I love Mexican food, especially tacos! There aren’t a lot of Mexican restaurants in town, but even the ones that claim to be Mexican don’t taste Mexican. The closest thing is probably Maya in crossroads but it’s expensive. So once in a while, we have taco night at home. This recipe makes 18 hard shell tacos in less than 30 minutes. Plus, all the ingredients are available all year round at the Metro Ayala supermarket.

Ingredients

  • 1 box taco shells

  • ½ kg ground beef, lean

  • 1 packet taco mix

  • 1 red onion, finely chopped

  • 2 heads iceberg lettuce

  • 3 fresh tomatoes full and plump

  • 1 bar sharp cheddar cheese, grated

Preparation

1. Preheat your oven for baking the taco shells. Follow the instructions on the box to see what temperature to put it on.

2. Cook the beef. In a pan, sauté ½ of the chopped onions. Once the onions are translucent, add in ground beef and coat with the taco mix. Add salt and pepper to taste.

3. Put the taco shells in the oven once the beef is cooked. Leave it in there until golden brown. See package for instructions.

4. Prep your veggies. Take the lettuce and chop it vertically to forms neat shreds. Dice the tomatoes into bite-sized bits. Take the other half of the chopped onion and serve.

5. Put the ingredients in pretty plates and serve!

Tips

  • You can use any kind of cheese you like (ex. Quickmelt, Monterey Jack, etc). You can even use cheese dips instead to make your taco crunchy on the outside but creamy on the inside!

  • When assembling the taco, put the lettuce in first so the shell doesn’t get soggy from the meat.

  • Serve with condiments like salsa, taco sauce, or hot sau
