Are you still following the 5,000 kms or 3 months change oil interval? Only the OEM and other poor quality over the counter oil filters will allow you such interval because by that time or kms their poor quality filter media is already clogged up. Good quality motor oil is only as good as your filter, what's the point of using a good quality oil with an OEM and over the counter oil filter when soot and tiny particles in microns can still pass thru your filter and end up in your engine internals. This tiny particles and soot will act as abrasive or as microscopic sandpaper inside your engine and leads to all kinds of issues and lost compression.
There are two basic principle of filtration: OEM and Fleet
OEM = is good enough for average engine life. Manufacturers do not want your engine lasting 3 or 4 times longer because they have to sell cars. More visit to dealership more profit for them! Marketing strategy....
Fleet Service = lowering maintenance cost by providing the longest engine life possible. Here will come the after market heavy duty filters like Baldwin, Donaldson, Mann, Fleetguard, Wix, etc. It's dirt holding capacity is 4 or 5 times that of an OEM and allows your oil change interval to 10,000 to 12,000 kms. They exceed OEM standards by filtering 98% @ 20 microns, 78% @ 12 microns compared to an OEM filter efficiency of 87% @ 40 microns and 78% @ 30 microns. Make a decision now protect your car!
