Lechon de Cebu

Lechon, which is a crunchy, pork dish roasted over open fire, is a dish known all over the Philippines. But the lechon from Cebu has a very distinct taste. It is sweet, juicy with meat that is so tender and pork skin that is superbly crunchy.

Although really high in cholesterol, lechon is often served during birthdays, fiestas and Christmas. Oftentimes, it is the highlight of the dining table.

It is not hard to find delicious lechon in Cebu, but the best one would have to be Nilo’s lechon and CNT. The packaging is great, meat is tender, the gravy is tasty and the pork skin has just the right salty goodness to it. This dish is often eaten with “puso” or compressed rice wrapped in banana leaves.

Usually, people buy lechon in kilos or whole and often order it to-go. However, if you are in the mood to just sit down and chomp on your lechon straight away, there are also a few establishments that offer good seating capacity and a clean ambience. The best one would have to be CNT’s Guadalupe branch. (Just tell the taxi cab driver to take you to CNT Lechon Guadalupe branch. They will know what to do). The ambiance is quiet and peaceful and you get to savour every bite of your lechon and puso without worrying about how oily your lips and chin are getting.

To be sure that you get the best tasting lechon in Cebu, better ask the locals for their opinions. For me, Nilo’s and CNT do lechon best.
