The HP Pavilion DV6-7000 is a laptop computer equipped with a full-size keyboard. Because a full-size HP Keyboard makes it comfortable for typing, you may have spent a great deal of time typing with your HP Pavilion DV6-7000 since you have owned it. Over time, wear and tear on a laptop keyboard can cause its performance to degrade. However, you do not need to replace the entire computer to improve the performance of the keyboard. You can replace your HP Pavilion DV6-7000 Keyboard if it no longer performs acceptably and you are not yet ready to replace the computer.

Turn the HP Pavilion DV6-7000 completely off. Take the battery pack out of the computer, and turn it over so that the bottom faces you.

Unscrew the three black Phillips-head screws on the bottom of the HP Pavilion DV6-7000. These screws lock the keyboard to the body of the computer. They are captive screws, which means that you cannot completely remove them from the computer. Flip the HP Pavilion DV6-7000 over and open the computer when you are finished. If you wish, you can place a soft cloth over the screen to protect it.

Locate the four black plastic locking tabs along the top row of the HP Pavilion Keyboard , between the "F" keys. Push each locking tab toward the bottom of the keyboard.

Lift the keyboard assembly out of the HP Pavilion DV6-7000, and place it face-down over the palm rest.

Open the locking mechanism for the keyboard cable with your thumbnail, and ease the keyboard cable out of the logic board connector. Set the keyboard aside.

Place the cable for the new HP Pavilion DV6-7000 keyboard into the connector, and close the locking mechanism.

Lower the keyboard and HP Keyboard Cover into the body of the HP Pavilion DV6-7000, and push the four black plastic locking tabs toward the screen. Close the screen and flip the computer over.

Tighten the three Phillips-head screws on the bottom of the HP Pavilion DV6-7000 to lock the keyboard in place.
