Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Basics

SEO is an internet strategy that improves the volume of traffic to your website through organic search engine results. It is important especially if you want your website to be found.

There are four key things about SEO.

1. SELECT THE RIGHT KEYWORDS

Example:
Your website is about anti-virus softwares, www.antivirusgallery.compt.
Your keywords should be: Norton, AVG, Avast, antivirus, anti-virus software.

It should not be: buy and sell, disk, virus (because these keywords do not match what you are selling. Also virus is originally a medical term. People looking for a vaccine for a viral flu strain would surely not be interested in your site)

2. USE THE BEST KEYWORD TO DESCRIBE YOUR SITE FOR THE HEADER TAG OR THE TITLE

The Title is what will appear in BOLD in the search engine results. So it should be catchy and relevant.
Example:
Best Anti-Virus Software Comparison

Below the Header is your own URL.
Example:
www.antivirusgallery.compt

The metatag is the description that will appear below the Header and the link. It should embody what your site is about.
Example:
Buy for less the top anti-virus softwares in the market today with relevant, reliable product comparisons.

3. INFORMATIVE LANDING PAGE

The landing page is the first page your visitor will see once he clicks on your Header/Title on the search results list. If your user is looking for the best anti-virus software, your landing site should show that immediately. It should not show irrelevant pictures of landscapes, flowers or mountain views.

4. PROPER CODING

To win the favour of search engine robots, you must apply proper coding, HTML and CSS. Your website must be friendly for both users and search engine robots.
