Regional Police Office - Region VII

Getting to know the local offices involved in our protection is a must for each and every concerned Cebuano. Unfortunately, a number of young people don’t even know how to contact the ever reliable police officers or where to go when crisis comes.

I’m proud to re-introduce to everyone the existence of our Regional Police Office for Region VI. It’s Regional Head Quarters in Camp Sergio Osmeña Sr. is found in Osmeña Boulevard Cebu City. It is readily seen having a wide frontage with the office’s name in clear view. It is easily accessed by way of the local jeepneys whether you are from the uptown area or downtown area. It’s situated between two big institutions—Cebu Normal University and the PLDT Jones office. There’s no way you’d get lost. For those on the rush, taxis would always be the best choice.

The Regional Police Office for Region VII’s s structure is comprised of the Central Office or the Regional Headquarters. It is headed by the Regional Director, Marcelo Poyaoan Garbo Jr., with 2 Deputies, one for Administration and one for Operations. As its name states it, the office has command over Central Visayas—Cebu, Bohol, Siquijoy, and Negros Oriental. This office evolved from the Philippine Constabulary which was systematized during the American colonization in 1901. It had an unchanged goal which was to maintain peace and order in the country.

The people under this office lives with a very noble philosophy—Service, Honor and Justice. They are expected to enforce the law and maintain peace, order and security around town. Of course, for them to succeed they would always necessitate the people’s support. Unfortunately, a number of issues surround the unit and oftentimes cause the public to lose trust on them. Nevertheless, citizens should hope for the best since there are still good officers left who value public’s trust that much.

Knowing some small yet pertinent details on this highly respected government unit can offer each resident a feeling of security. It really pays to be a smart citizen in this realm full of unexpected surprises. Take the edge and don’t be a victim.
