A Review of Budlaan Falls

Budlaan Falls is one of the hidden gems in Cebu City. Who would have thought that just a few kilometers from the main road, there is some cool waterfalls that you can quickly access? Budlaan Falls is a common trail among local mountaineering groups. This is also a favorite spot of some hiking enthusiasts.

Best Time to Go

It would be best to go to Budlaan Falls during summer or hot days. The water is clearer and best for swimming during these times. During the rainy days, the water can be muddy and dirty. But when you are in luck of going there on a cool day, expect a really good dip in the falls. The waters suddenly go deep so it is important to be careful. By the way, the waterfalls isn’t really as beautiful as the world-renowned falls. It’s only average-looking so don’t expect too much from it.

How to Get There

There are many routes to Budlaan Falls. Some of the seasoned hikers and mountain climbers take the difficult road by going downstream the river from Busay to the falls. For first timers, one could get to the falls by a nearer trail. You can use the Talamban route to get there. Just stop at Sunny Hills Subdivision in Talamban. Ride a habal-habal (what is Habal-Habal?)or motorcycle to the jump-off at Baugo for P25 per person. From there you will take a trail to the falls. If you are thinking of dropping by the place, it would be best to have a guide who knows the place well. Although the trail on the way to the falls is fairly easy but there are some paths that are confusing due to the topography. The trails also change depending on the season. This is the challenge that that the place brings.

What to Wear

Wear the right apparel and shoes when going there. It would be best to wear shoes or sandals for hiking since the terrain is can be rocky. Make sure that you go for soles that aren’t slippery when wet. It's also not a walk in the park so expect sweating and getting tired before you get to the falls. Wear moisture-wicking garments and clothes. You may also need to bring water with you in case you get thirsty along the way. You may also want to bring lunch or food and eat by the falls with friends.

Final Notes

When trekking to Budlaan Falls, always remember to leave no trace. Don't leave your garbage out there even if they are degradable. Do not carve out your name in any stone or tree. This is a way to respect the environment and in safeguarding the outdoors.

Overall, the place is just average. It can be difficult to go there especially when you are not a hiker. This can be a problem. If you are up for the challenge, this can be an interesting experience. The waterfall is also average. It’s not that amazing or exceptionally pretty. However, this can be a good secluded getaway with friends. I’d give it three stars for the experience and the fun it brings.
