You can mix your dining, shopping and movie watching experience if you choose to watch a movie in a cinema that is located inside a mall.
Cebu City has a handful of malls. To name a few, we have SM City Cebu, SM Consolacion, Ayala Center Cebu, JY Square, J Center Mall, E Mall Gaisano chain of malls – Metro Gaisano, Gaisano in Ayala Center, Gaisano Mactan, Gaisano Country Mall and the new AM/PM mall (which is supposedly a 24 hour mall). But not all of these malls have a cinema though.
If you are looking for a cozy, non-traumatic movie going experience in a cinema within a mall, refer to our top three picks:
1. Ayala Center Mall’s Cinemas
Ayala Centre Cebu’s cinemas are on top of this list for a very good reason. The movie halls are spacious, carpeted and clean. They have digital screens and 3D too. The ticketing counter is located in a very conspicuous location (near the food court) so you surely will know where to purchase your ticket, without having to go around in circles. The cinema halls have large number signage too. So yes, you will not wander around in the wrong hall.
You can check the movies they are showing on a particular date online, via their website.
Ayala Center Cebu’s cinemas have this sure-seat policy where only a number of people are accommodated per showing. Do you remember the olden days when you would have to stand up to watch a movie in an incredibly crowded cinema hall? Well, you can say goodbye to that now.
Did I mention that Ayala Cinema’s movie halls are clean? And the seats are uber-comfortable. I don’t know really see if there are stains in the dark though, but from my limited view, I pretty much believe the seats are clean. Lol. They have cup holders too. Hooray.
Tickets range from P150 and above.
2. SM City Cebu’s Cinemas
SM City Cebu’s cinemas can still get pretty packed especially when there are blockbuster hits. You can check their movies through their website too. SM gets major points for it’s SMS BOOKING. The only reason why SM City’s cinemas is not on top of my list is because the toilets are pretty darn dirty. Most of the time. And the seats are quite dirty too. Ticket prices are reasonable at P150 and above.
Their iMAX hall, however is another story. Can you say posh?! The iMAX hall screams of exclusivity. You can purchase the ticket inside. iMAX tickets cost P500 and up.
Note: I heard that SM Consolacion has awesome cinema halls too. As I have never been there, I could not include it in my top picks. I’ll add in a separate review for SM Consolacion cinemas once I do experience watching movies in them.
3. A Tie: Gaisano Country Mall’s Cinemas and Emall’s Cinemas
Both have their pros and cons, but I think they are pretty much at par:
Emall: The cinemas are not so spacious but they are modern and cozy. The seats are well cushioned and the toilets are clean. Enough space too for queuing.
Gaisano Country Mall: Their cinemas are not the cleanest. In fact, they almost seem dingy and dirty. BUT, they have lots of movie halls, which Emall just does not have. This means, a lot of movies to choose from and a lot of cinema halls to evenly distribute the crowd in case of box-office breaking movies.
