Pinoy Pitstop at Orosia Food Park

Lately I've been trying to eat as much Filipino food as I can. Most of my favorite dishes, I can cook at home, sure. But some are more time consuming and labor intensive. Cebu Cityhas a handful of highly-rated Filipino restaurants found in malls, hotels, and anywhere in the metro. But I prefer a more casual dining atmosphere, because it's a little more Pinoy than sitting in an air-conditioned restaurant, eating off a plate with a fork and knife (although there's nothing wrong with that).

On our down time, Ze boyfriendand I like to take the truck out on a mini-roadtrip out of the busy city. So we drive up to Liloa-an, where it's a little more laid-back. Along the way we make a pitstop and have lunch at Consolacion in a place called Orosia Food Park. It is found along the National Highway, Cansaga, Consolacion, Cebu. This place has been in business for quite some time now but I only heard about it when we started dating. Orosia is a simple, no frills, wholesome Filipino restaurant. "Food Park" I'm guessing refers to the vast area it occupies. It has a big parking lot, a lot of greenery around it, as well as a very unique attraction - the owner's critters. You can see his menagerie of exotic pets in the back of the property. There is no air-conditioning; it is open-air but there are electric fans all around. It's not too close to the road, so you don't have to worry about dust or smog. It is perfectly bright and breezy.

Katy Recommends

  • Bakedtahong (mussels) - generously covered with garlic and cheese, this Pinoy fave is no disappointment. Orosia serves only the freshest ingredients so you can be sure that you'll get maximum flavor!

  • Onion rings - okay, they're not exactly Filipino but they're so good. I like that they use locally grown onions that are the perfect size to pop in your mouth.

  • Sizling pork sisig - I order this everytime I eat Pinoy. It's minced pork (from the face and ears of the pig) grilled first then fried with loads of spicy peppers and onion and garlic, served on a sizzling platter. Orosia has a really good recipe, with my kinda heat! WARNING: It's very spicy!

  • Pork halang-halang - the best dish the Food Park has to offer. Diced pork and peppers cooked in coconut milk. We order it everytime we come here. It's the best!

  • Grilled tuna panga (jaw) - it is perfectly seasoned, no need to dip in soy sauce or whatever.

There are a lot more items on the menu and all are very affordable, at P70-P180 per dish. You could have a feast with the family for only P100/head.

Orosia Food Park is open daily, from 10AM to 10PM. They accept orders for meetings, functions, and other special occasions. For inquiries and reservations call (032) 4239730.
