Cebu City is Nearly Synonymous to Barbecue

Barbecues are a-plenty in Cebu City. Every turn, every corner, every barangay has at least one barbecue stall. Within just 30 meters of my vicinity, there are already at least three barbecue stalls that open mostly at night time. There are actually a lot of options available in these barbecue stands including hotdogs, longganisa, chicken thighs and even grilled fish. Often times, these barbecue stalls also offer the “puso” or rice wrapped in banana leaves or is it some other leaf... uhm, I’m not quite sure.

If you have been to Cebu, I’m sure you must have heard of Larsian. Larsian is like the mecca of barbecue stalls. Larsian is filled with an aroma of deliciously grilled meat, smoke that delight the senses and uber-tasty barbecue sauce – not to mention the variety of siomai stands that serve equally tasty siomais.

Anyway, I’m not gonna talk about Larsian. Instead, I’m going to talk about my favourite barbecue stand in Cebu. It is not popular and it is not expensive either. It is just another one of those mom and pop sidewalk businesses that offer foods that are a notch above the rest. I’m talking about Litang’s barbecue. I do not know much about the history of Litang’s. Nor do I know who Litang is. She could be the owner, the owner’s daughter... who knows. But I do know that I am enamored by the delightful taste of their pork barbecue.

Unlike most pork barbecues, theirs barely has fats. They mostly offer lean meat – and lots of it. Not just teensy weensy bits of pork meat. Their soy sauce is also quite unique. It does not seem like the soy sauce you could easily buy off a shelf. So if you really are in Cebu City, looking for a treat, try their barbecues. Try going to Larsian to try a wide variety and also get a bite at Litang’s so you will understand why I’m hooked.
