Halloween in the Philippines

Halloween celebration in Philippines is now highly Westernized. In the US, they usually celebrate Halloween Eve with costume parties, trick or treats for kids, pumpkin carving and haunted houses house. Halloween celebration in Philippines is now highly Westernized. In the US, they usually celebrate Halloween Eve with costume parties, trick or treats for kids, pumpkin carving and haunted houses house. In the Philippines, we've started to take on that tradition as well. Maybe not this year, due to COVID-19.

But for Filipinos, Halloween is more than that. It is followed by All Souls' Day, a time to remember the dearly departed loved ones, relatives or friends.

What Used to Be

For years, now, Malls have create horror booths to entertain and scare those who are willing to be scareds! They also sell costumes, vampire teeth, plastic pumpkin and other stuffs for decorations if you want to scare your friends or family. Aside from horror booths, other celebrates Halloween Parties in clubs and workplaces.

This year, it will be different. Let's stay safe for the sake of everyone. No trick or treats, no packed malls.

Time to Break Out the Horror Stories

Filipino loves to scare and scared to be scared. It's a fact proven by yourself for sure. It's also time for adults to scare children with horror stories like:

  • The White Lady who appears at night and dawn, looking for the person who killed her
  • The Headless Priest who committed suicide
  • The Haunted House
  • The Scary 13th Floor
  • The Rising of the dead in the cemetery
  • Those are the most told, even though there had been uncountable man-made horror stories.

Of course, to stay safe, you can always just chill at home and watch horror movies! What's the latest one on Netflix? Antebellum, perhaps?

So how are you celebrating Halloween this year? Any tips?
