Review: Reminiscing at Vienna Kaffeehaus

One of my favorite places go with the family is Vienna Kaffeehaus. We have been patrons since I can remember. It’s been in Cebu for almost 30 years. It is and has always been a warm, homey place to have a Sunday dinner with the family or have some good old ice cream sundaes with friends.

I can’t say it enough – Vienna is a very family-friendly café & restaurant. I remember way back when we used to live right behind the Banilad branch. After hearing Mass, we would just walk to Vienna. When you come in, it’s nice and cool. The people are warm and friendly. First thing we’d do is grab a magazine each from the shelf, then pick our dessert ahead of time from the fridge right next to it. Then we wash our hands in the little washroom. Then we pick a booth and prop ourselves onto to the cushy seats, magazine in hand. Mom and dad get the cold cuts platter with beer. She orders ham sausages for all three of us kids. I swear, it is THE BEST sausage I have ever had in my life! SWEAR! Firm, plump, sweet & savory, and served with garlic rice and fresh salad, it goes so well with ketchup & mustard. I’m getting hungry just writing about it. After dinner we get dessert: blueberry cheesecake for me and giant ice cream sundaes for my siblings. Mom and Dad just get coffee. This is our favorite part. Served with the coffee is a little piece of chocolate. Our parents wouldn’t eat them so we always fought over them. It was always a treat for us when the waitresses would give us extra chocolate because we liked it so much. I have only the best memories of that place.

Now, Vienna serves German food mostly, but they’ve thrown in a few Filipino favorites into the selection. Eat here for breakfast, lunch, merienda, or dinner. There’s sausages, sandwiches, and schnitzels! The beer is local and always ice cold. Desserts are freshly baked every time. Portions are very generous. It’s a cozy place where you can just talk or have a meal with your loved ones. It is cozy, relaxed, and quiet enough so you can enjoy a cup of coffee and read a book or write an article about a German café & restaurant you love.

TIP: They have free wifi for patrons.
