Did You Know That These 3 Scary Bugs Could Be Hiding in Your Bedroom?

Our bedrooms are supposed to be havens of privacy where we’re free to relax and unwind, but what happens when they’re invaded by pests? Worse – what if the pests are there but you just don’t know it yet?

Here are 3 pests that could be hiding in your bedroom, and what you can do about them.

Bed Bugs

Oh these little buggers are as persistent as that ex who wouldn’t stop calling and texting. To be fair, if these bloodsuckers are in your bedroom, you’d know. They’ll be feasting on you all night, disturbing your sleep, and leaving you itching all over while feeling like you’ll never rest properly again.

  • If you spot any of the following, you probably have a bed bug problem on your hands:
  • Blood stains on your sheets or pillowcases
  • Dark or rusty spots of bedbug excrement on sheets and mattresses, bed clothes, and walls
  • Bed bug faecal spots, egg shells, or shed skins in areas where bed bugs hide
  • An offensive, musty odour from the bugs' scent glands

If you’ve got bed bugs, then it’s time to give your room a very thorough scrubdown, and wash all clothes and sheets, preferably in hot water to kill the eggs. Or, if you want to go nuclear, just burn everything down, leave nothing behind and move. (just kidding!)

Dust Mites

These pests are so small they’re invisible to the naked eye, so you won’t even know they’re on your bed, ready to crawl all over your face while you’re asleep… They aren’t particularly dangerous, but they can be an immense nuisance, especially if you’ve got allergies as they can cause chronic sinus problems, asthma-like symptoms or even eczema.

Be sure to change your bedsheets regularly and vacuum your mattress, sofa and pillows to get rid of dead skin cells that dust mites thrive on! Getting anti-dust mite covers for your mattress and pillows will help too.

Spiders

Beware these arachnids! With their eight hairy legs and eight creepy eyes, spiders have been a source of fear since time immemorial. While they can be a force for good since they feast on pesky insects, there is the flip side with are countless horror stories of venomous spiders floating around the internet. Fortunately, there aren’t many deadly spiders in Cebu (compared to, say, Australia), but there are a few scary species that have made their home in our fair city.

To be safe, never ever kill a spider with your bare hands, and do regular dusting, cleaning and airing of all corners of your room to keep these potentially deadly creatures out.
